Rose's family aren't the bunch of redneck hicks that you'd expect to
see in a horror film, however.
Some of the film's more startling moments and visuals are the most effective and unsettling sequences I've
seen in a horror film in recent years, which will be due in part to what personally unsettles me, but may have no impact on anyone else.

Another
film that went on to have it's own franchise pushed the boundaries of
horror, made on a shoestring budget and executed
in the most simplest of terms was
Saw.
From the title, description, and most of the footage you've probably
seen, The Cabin
in the Woods looks like the same awful, recycled
horror film you've
seen over and over.
I went

When I first
saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was good to be another awful
horror film, but the twist led by the characters played by Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins makes this one of the most inventive
horror films I've
seen in a while.
The Witch is truly the most disturbing
horror film i have
seen in years and i don't say that lightly.
If your a fan of the
saw franchise or
horror,
in general, this
film is a must -
see.
This is a
film about a horrific act of violence that eventually results
in more bloodshed and gruesomely realistic, Cronenbergian body
horror than anything I've
seen in a long time.
And so we're tweaking our «Best of the 21st Century» formula (check out our
Horror Films, Animated and Music Documentary features) to look instead at the top - grossing
films of the century to date, and
seeing how,
in this season of bottom lines and billions and box office bombs, the 25 reigning champions of the century stack up against each other
in terms of quality.
Both
films were made with very small budgets, both proved extremely profitable relative to those budgets, and both spawned new trends
in the
horror genre — gory «torture porn» / new - wave splatter
films (
Saw) and smaller - budgeted supernatural
horror films (Paranormal Activity).
I didn't
see 2015's The Visit because generally I can not handle
horror, but I know that it was the first time
in thirteen years where a
film of his wasn't critically panned.
Roeg's
film, originally adapted from a short story by Daphne du Maurier and considered one of 1970s British
horror's most precious treasures,
sees Sutherland (John Baxter) and Christie (his wife Laura) transplanted to Venice
in the wake of their daughter's death.
While the theme may be one we
see lazily churned out Halloween after Halloween, critics across the board are agreeing that this movie is a mustwatch — with Time Out New York calling it «One of the most genuinely unnerving
horror films in recent memory.»
Sure, it doesn't fall under the
horror umbrella but we're thrilled to
see him expand and push his craft
in what appears to be a very solid
film, one that our own Trace hails as, ``... a lot of fun and hilarious to boot.»
Something tells me I would enjoy this one more than any
horror film I've
seen in 2012, including «The Cabin
in the Woods».
I've
seen it
in 100
horror films since.
The Endless is a
horror / sci - fi
film like nothing the cinematic world has
seen thus far and only serves to prove Benson & Moorhead as some of the strongest voices
in the world of indie cinema.
Astonishingly this thriller is one of the creepier
films, not to be placed
in the
horror genre, that I have ever
seen.
We
see the destruction of Metropolis from his ground - level viewpoint
in a genuinely tense and engaging opening sequence (after the contractually obligated retelling of Bats» origins during the credits), that does far more to convey the true
horror and damage of that fight than the previous
film.
For example, prior to digital distribution,
horror films from filmmakers working
in countries like Japan, Spain, and Italy were traded on VHS and DVDs by American fans of the genre, including movies that never
saw an official theatrical release
in the United States.
As good as the must
sees of the month are, the
film's you should take a chance on are just as good, offering a return to
horror for M. Night Shyamalan
in The Visit as well as a few stellar looking indie
horror films with Bloodsucking Bastards, Hellions, and Some Kind of Hate.
Not bad at all.this
film keeps you guessing
in ways you never do a lot
in horror films.Rob Zombie directs theses actors like I've never
seen a
horror director do before.this movie is truly amazing, people are calling it «terrible» I call it «good» it's the kind of

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a
film as interested
in process as it is
in jump scares and the result is one of the most entertaining
horror movies I've
seen in a year that has had no shortage of great scary movies.

Saw, Insidious) released The Conjuring; a movie that I would venture to say is one of the better
Horror films of the past decade.

Some pretty exciting news this afternoon as Lionsgate (The Last Exorcism,
Saw, Cabin Fever) is getting back
in the
horror business by acquiring U.S. distribution rights to Barry Levinson's found footage eco-
horror film The Bay from Alliance Films.
Starring Riley Keough, Matt Dillon and Bruno Ganz, the
film is due out
in 2018, but the controversial Antichrist, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac filmmaker has released an intriguing first - look image — a direct nod to Carl Theodor Dreyer's classic 1932
horror Vampyr (scroll down to
see the similarities)-- to whet the appetite.

In fact, Leigh Whannell is very open to returning to the
Saw franchise somewhere down the road, once he gets a political
horror comedy made, and a children's fantasy

film looks like something interesting that
horror fans will need to
see, so don't forget to check it out at the end of the month
in theaters.
This past October, Lionsgate gleefully promised that
Saw 3D would be the final
film in this lucrative
horror series.
As I watched a demon - possessed girl split her own tongue
in half with a rusty boxcutter, and then proceed to partake
in the most disgusting French kiss I've ever
seen, I was so overwhelmed with disgust that I forgot I was watching a remake of one of my favorite indie
horror films ever.
Lionsgate UK sent us this ultra gory red - band mashup just
in time for the release of the upcoming
horror film «
Saw VII» aka
Saw 3D by director Kevin Greutert (
Saw VI, Old Friends) stars Tobin Bell (Alice, Bump,
Saw), Cary Elwes (The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, A Christmas Carol), Costas Mandylor (The Rogue, The Cursed), Betsy Russell (Chain Letter) and Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day).
It would also be nice to
see Whedon tackle a straight - up
horror film, since «Cabin
in the Woods» (which he co-wrote and produced) sometimes felt more like a heady thesis project than an actual scare - the - shit - out - of - you chiller.
