When he stages a show at his Great Newport Street Gallery, which is one of the most handsome art spaces in London, though not alas one blessed with good links to public transport, pretty well everything you see will be items that belong to him.

For the last weekend of our gallery exhibition, Mene Mene Tekel Parsin, Wysing's studio artists will be welcoming the public to their studios to see new work and to hear about projects in development.

At Annely Juda Fine Art, the celebrated public sculptor Richard Wilson has gone unpublic on us with the first show of his in a private gallery that I remember seeing.

Taking place in MCAC's Gallery 1 the event will see the 11 invited artists produce new works, live, in the space of one evening, while audience are free to move around, watch and contribute to a public mash wall.

They see the responsibility of the gallery as three fold; to work for the long term development of each artists career, acting as a liaison to international galleries and museums as well as placing works in collections; to create an historical archive for each artist; and to act as an accessible public space in which the exhibitions become an exemplary gesture of the power of subjectivity to the audience at large.

The Abstract Art Collective presents ArtSEE, a fundraiser art event for SEE International, to be held at the Faulkner Main Gallery in the Santa Barbara Public Library.

Installed throughout the museum grounds, we wanted to provide different contexts in which to see the sculptures, from public spaces to more intimate settings like the Impressionist galleries.»

What struck me in September 2010, when I first saw his work — yes, I know: how could I not have been aware of it before, when 2012 marks his 85th birthday, his paintings are in at least 98 public collections throughout the world, he has had countless solo exhibitions, globally, and been included in an endless series of mixed shows — stumbling across his National Portrait Gallery show, was its supreme stylishness.

So why was she completely forgotten and why is this show — first seen in Australia and now at the Courtauld — her first exhibition in a public art gallery?

Looking back, I see that's what prompted a lot of the prints: the Metropolitan Museum's Mezzanine Gallery, under Danny Berger, commissioned Summer and Turkish Delight; In a Public Garden was made to raise funds for the Kunstverein, Dusseldorf, where Raimund Stecker curated a show of my paintings; Books for the Paris Review is self - explanatory; Norwich was intended to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation but that never happened — instead, I made Two's Company for them; Sea was made to subsidise Thames & Hudson, who published the catalogue raisonné of my prints and Sunset was made as The Whitechapel Gift: proceeds to support the Whitechapel Gallery's education programmes.

Over the years, the gallery has been involved in several public art projects, some of which can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, like Andrew Schoultz's mural Imperials in downtown L.A.

Reluctant at first to believe that de Kooning was not too strongly rooted in the 19th century - because my perceived role at the Whitechapel in the Fifties and Sixties was to try to help the English public, visually backward at the time, to see and understand the different phases of abstract art from Malevich and Mondrian on - I was totally converted by his 1959 show in New York at the Sidney Janis Gallery of blazing, light - drenched landscape canvases, based on the fields and dunes around the coastline of the Hamptons where de Kooning had acquired a studio.

The public may still not have much say over what art they see in galleries, but they're certainly getting better at expressing their opinions.

Everywhere you look in art fairs, galleries, and many museums, you'll see contemporary photography — it's often more interesting than other forms of contemporary art, at least to the public.

The project was born of the desire to create material in the tradition of the democratic multiple, bypassing the gallery system to distribute artist multiples to a wider public at a reasonable cost, whilst, as Lucy Lippard said, «to see artists able to profit economically from broad communication rather than from the lack of it.»

Here's what she said: «Getting started in the commercial gallery world is best facilitated by engagement with the arts community; participating in public events, residencies, group shows, etc. and building relationships with other artists is one of the better ways to get your work seen while making connections to other curators and gallerists.

Over the years, the gallery has been involved in several public art projects, some of which can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, like Andrew Schoultz's mural Imperials in downtown L.A., while forthcoming exhibitions at the gallery will feature Kris Kuski's Antiquity in the Faux, a series of intricately constructed mixed media sculptures, and works by interdisciplinary artist Preston Daniels.»

Supported by a catalogue essay in which the curator Catherine Lampert discusses their habits and methods and introduces previously unseen writing by the artists, the exhibition will look at the way their conversations impacted on the development of their work, demonstrating that despite their wide - ranging styles they are each linked by a desire to catch what Bacon describes as «the mystery of appearance within the mystery of making», and in doing so broke new ground in contemporary painting The exhibition includes major works by each artist, several borrowed from public collections, among them Francis Bacon's Pope I 1951 from Aberdeen Art Gallery, David Hockney's Man in a Museum 1962 from the British Council and others like Frank Auerbach's Primrose Hill, Winter Sunshine 1962 - 64 and Euan Uglow's Nude, Lady C 1959 - 60 which have not been seen in public for many years.

Tyburn Gallery opened Broken English featuring 15 artists in September and it has been fantastic to see so much interest from both the public and collectors.

As a result of recent related exhibitions («Vanessa Bell», Dulwich Picture Gallery, 2017; «Bloomsbury: Art and Design», Courtauld Gallery, 2017), several pieces not seen in public for many years have come to light.

The presentation of the collection of Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo is part of the Whitechapel Gallery's ongoing programme of opening up collections that are rarely seen by the public in the UK.
