Even in places where a dense
network of stations already exists, some stations lack high - speed and reliable telemetry — the data communication
capabilities that include everything from radio waves to satellite and commercial internet to send
seismic signals to a central data processing center in real time.
This
network is delivering unprecedented monitoring and detection
capabilities across the U.S. Arctic, with impacts ranging from
seismic monitoring and natural hazards assessment to enhanced weather, water, and climate forecasting, as well as atmospheric and permafrost monitoring.
