A family picture helps breeders
select sires and dams that are not only free of disease but have produced puppies in the past that are free of disease.
This is an area that no breeder can afford to ignore and no one should drift from his or her breed's standard when it comes time to
select sires and dams.
Not exact matches
When I
select my top pick (s) from a litter, I am hoping they will be the absolute best that both the
sire and dam had to give.
This also happens when a breed is being created since the
selected breeding dogs are forming a small pool, each
dam and sire is reused for multiple breedings.
The breeder should be prepared to discuss the breed standard
and the degree to which the puppies will conform or deviate from that standard, the goals of the breeding in general,
and the reason for
selecting that
sire and that
dam in particular.
