senior dogs in our community, we began exploring other options and found programs, called Pet Retention Programs, being offered in larger cities.

Seeing a need
in her
community that was not being filled Cathie started Elder Paws
Senior Dog Rescue
in 2012, the Central Valley's first and only non-profit dedicated exclusively to older
dogs in Central Valley kill shelters.
They educate people so they better understand their
senior dogs and work to promote their happy
senior dogs and joyful 4EvrFamilies through extensive social media exposure, and
in other electronic, print and school /
community presentations and related materials.
We provide retention training and counseling for families struggling with the decision to keep their pet due to behavior issues, guidance and counseling to families during the process of adopting a new pet, match
senior dogs with the
senior citizen
community, and offer social rehabilitation to
dogs that have failed
in traditional animal shelters.
A
senior rescue or sanctuary may be able to offer the most help
in finding the right
dog for you, but large
community shelters also do temperament testing, and some use a version of ASPCA's «Meet Your Match» program.
In many
senior communities there are few places to walk a
dog, she said.
From a
senior dog who was adoptable for over 11 years, to a paralyzed cat with the will and determination to walk again, our success stories remind us why Core Paws is a vital need
in the animal
community.
In addition to providing medical care for
senior dogs who have been released to the shelter, were found as strays or are cruelty cases, we are now also able to offer assistance to members of our
community who own
senior dogs they want to keep but just need some help to be able to do so.
