The intra-Asian trade was much bigger than the direct exports to the U.S., but when we accounted for the components produced in, say, Taiwan that were
sent for subassembly to Thailand, then to Malaysia for
final assembly with the finished
product destined for the U.S.,
over half of Asian exports ended up in America.
