In February, West Berlin gallery ARNDT will be moving to a new space on Fasanenstrasse in Charlottenburg, which is the location of
several traditional galleries and auction houses.

In addition to the
traditional local markets where people can buy everything needed for daily life, there are now
several shopping malls, supermarkets, mini marts, silk shops, souvenir shops, boutique shops, art
galleries, and shops and stores of every size and description.
The cozy NEWD Art Show, on Johnson Avenue, featured the Lower East Side
gallery Regina Rex, which displayed
several of Hannah Barrett's playfully deviant folk - arty takes on the
traditional portrait and still life; Greenpoint's 106 Green, an artist - run space showing gently noirish figurative paintings by Beijing - raised Xinyi Cheng; and Greenpoint Terminal, offering Eric Shaw's meticulous but sardonically wobbly hard - edge abstractions.
In terms of the wide range of media employed, the show looks like it could have been made by
several different artists: sculptures similar to the ones shown a the Whitney occupy one
gallery; another room boasts huge, scribbly pencil drawings on walls that surround a replica of a hearth («the
traditional focal point of the American home»); in another, stacks of mannequins wearing identical outfits and wigs create a chute through which you can walk to view floor - facing monitors screening videos featuring the real - life character the mannequins seem to be modeled after (the artist's mother).
Although the show was staged in a
traditional white cube
gallery, it managed to replicate
several, multi-sensory projects.
Performance events are hosted in
several of the best
galleries of contemporary art in the world, as well as
traditional centres such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Just opened at Laurel Gitlen, one of
several galleries on Manhattan's Lower East Side known for spotting artists with both institutional and commercial relevance, Jenkins» repurposes
traditional «white box» resources, light, open space, and electricity, to create a perceptually unstable architecture.
