coral much healthier; third are the pinnacles and small rocky islands which rise from the depths and attract larger marine life such as sharks and rays; and fourth are the banks which rise up from depths of over 300 meters and attract different types of marine life altogether.

Navigating through the narrow
shallow pass, we enter the blue lagoon full with
coral heads and rocks and head for a long white sandy beach
fringed with coconut palms.
Coral reefs - Rock - like limestone (calcium carbonate) structures built by
corals along ocean coasts (
fringing reefs) or on top of
shallow, submerged banks or shelves (barrier reefs, atolls), most conspicuous in tropical and sub-tropical oceans.
As the island sinks, the
fringing reef continues to grow upwards so the living
corals stay in
shallow water.
