Share an interesting fact
about yourself: When I wrote each
book in the Weir Chronicles five -
book series, I knew ahead of time what I wanted on each
cover and what the color scheme would be.
We want to
share some information and some of our opinions
about the
book cover industry, We have a list of authors we have worked with, who plan to interview.
So yesterday on the phenomenal review of Red over at Smart Bitches, Trashy
Books (see, I'm so excited I had to slip that in and
share it with you again, in case you missed it), someone made a comment
about my
cover being «just like» the
cover of Under Her Skin.
And I think Hugh Howey can teach us a lot
about book cover design, but not by
sharing his design instincts (fun and artistic, creative like his
books, but making a statement
about the author, rather than conforming to industry design standards based on what actually moves
books).
It's also worth pointing out that Hugh is doing an awesome job of content marketing: he's posting tips
about cover design that incidentally
share his new
books — instead of saying «Hey everybody, go check out my
books!»
One very helpful feature that this app can offer readers and their families is students who attend schools that are taking advantage of digital learning can scan the
covers of titles they are interested in within the app, then
share that information at home with their parents in order to make purchasing choices
about books.
We've
shared quote photos,
book covers, and graphics
about sales we've run.
The up side, I'm only doing eBooks, but I've made more in a month than I did with him in 6 — of course he got the lion's
share, but still... Since I've only had my
books out for a little more than a month, I'm not sure how well I'll do in the long run, but I'm happy
about being under control and not wondering when I'll see a
cover or edits (what edits?)
People may
share and talk
about a
book's
cover even if they haven't read the
book!
