share your opinion... It's your choice to believe what you wish but don't insult everyone else in the
process... Just remember that there's so much that your «
thinking» brain can't explain and as a «thinker» you shouldn't dismiss anything just because you have no proof.
Process theologians can
share with other critics in pointing out that classical theism developed its doctrines on assumptions derived from Greek rather that biblical
thought.
Process thinkers
share Hauerwas» concern to develop postmodern ways of
thinking and living that provide an alternative to the ravages modernism has inflicted on our planet.
I was tempted at first to give maybe a 10 point list of advice for parents going through deconstruction in front of their kids... things like let them see the books you read and answer their curiosities about them; teach your kids how to
think, not how to believe; tell them everything you're going through and let them deal with what it means for them; ask them what they believe and listen objectively and engage in conversation about it; openly
share your struggles with what you're going through with the church and let them
process it themselves, and so on.
Perhaps sufficient will have been said if I point out that
process thought is based upon wide generalizations made from those experiences of fact, and those facts of experience, which demonstrate to us the dynamic, active, on - going «creative advance» of the world; and which, in recognizing and accepting the patent reality of such a world, sees man as part of it
sharing in that movement, and a principle of ordering and direction, which may properly be called God, explaining why and how the advance goes on as it does.
While I am not aware of significant discussions of this issue among
process thinkers, Matthew Fox and Brian Swimme, who though not directly influenced by
process thought nonetheless
share the relational vision, have incorporated elements of this, particularly through the use of art, in their own education
process in order to stimulate the «right» brain, the intuitive and imaginative capacities of the human mind.
Once
process philosophers and theologians have mastered the jargon and technical intricacies of Whitehead's
thought, they generally prefer to
share the intellectual excitement of their work with each other, rather than to attempt repeated explanations for the benefit of the uninitiated.
Out of all the
thoughts, that have, and will
process to become your mind, you took the time to
share some of those
thoughts with your opponents / enemies in belief, or maybe some who are similarly aligned.
So these «internal» arguments against free will theism are purely ad hominem, drawing upon ethical views that free will theists are
thought to accept but which need not be
shared by the
process theist making the argument.
I shall be reflecting largely from my own experience, as
process thought enables and indeed requires us to do; but the nature of that experience is essentially that
shared by all who nurture — whether, for example, single social workers, middle - aged adoptive parents, teachers who care about their students or, I suspect, those artists and poets who cherish and give birth to the world.
An approach to the world and God in terms of
process -
thought can bring one very close to the Christian conviction that God is genuinely, not simply verbally, describable as «love» — and as love which participates,
shares, and even suffers.
Once we begin to
think of our faith in terms of largeness instead of largess or in terms of measurable success or significant achievements or community stature or statistically significant gains or business models or congregational models or appropriate budget
processes or cash flow direction or generally accepted accounting practices or independent audits or administrative requirements or managerial transparency or proper leadership roles and boundaries or membership trends or effective organizational structures or a current and accurate vision statement — at that point, we have become the money changers — we have lost our faith and deserve to be driven away for we are neither living nor
sharing the Good News.
