Life is far too serious to be bearable without the delight
of play, laughter, and celebration for
sheer joy.
In unclouded
joy, and in
sheer sorrow, there remains always, as an experience, the presence and support
of Christ - communally in the Church, personally in the individual
life: «my peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, do I give to you».
But there was a reality behind all the pictures and images — and that reality was
life in God, with all the saints, where suffering and pain would be no more and where all the anguish
of this mortal
life would be absent entirely, being replaced by
sheer joy such as that
of the angels themselves.
The celibate priest too, who
lives his vocation within the honesty
of his «honouring the flesh
of Christ» will find, even to old years, an endless relationship, especially with the young,
of sheer love,
sheer joy, and peace with God.
So, if you ever had that moment
of just like pure bliss, where it's just like you're not thinking about anything, you just feel a true sense
of like
sheer joy and happiness, and you know, sometimes that can mean the middle
of a music festival, but sometimes it's just like you wake up in the morning and you're next to your dog, and you're just like yes, like this is
life right now.
In some ways, nothing will match the
sheer pleasure and
joy of writing A Discovery
of Witches, or the fun
of writing Shadow
of Night, or the satisfaction
of bringing the whole thing into port with The Book
of Life.»
