Today I
am cleaning out our» walk in» closet that has jokingly
been called the «throw in» closet and could really
use the gift card for
paint and
shelving.
The original plan
was to
use a natural stain for a wood look similar to Bliss at Home's linen closet in my inspiration collage, but the
shelves were badly chipped and had large
paint drips from previous owners.
This
shelf unit
was made
using old pine floorboards and simply
painted in a distressed white finish.
After my husband and I
used an eggshell finish
paint (very watered down, so it
was more like a stain) om a couple of book
shelves for my daughter's room, we found that by the time they dried, while we could see the wood grain clearly like we wanted to, they had a very dull and rough appearance.
Then for the
shelves I
used melamine lined panel boards because they
are already white (no
painting required), and
are resistant to scratches and stains.
I
'm wanting to
use some white trim
paint I have to
paint some decorative wall
shelves.
I
'm using black chalk
paint and leaving the oak top and
shelves as they
are.
When the
paint was dry, I gave it a fast glaze with Caromal's Coffee and Creme glazes mixed 50:50, and added some dimensional stenciling to the front and
shelves (
using the Metallic Wall Plasters).
I added a fat crystal knob, and glue gunned some fun ploomish trim to the
shelves to finish it off... I found a tin container,
painted it and added a dimensional stencil to mark our «drug» bin — aka
R X, and grabbed one of the burlap sacs that we sell and
used it to bury the kleenex --
