We will not keep an «unadoptable aggressive» dog at the ITV Rescue Center for the rest of its life because it risks the safety of ITV volunteers and
kennel techs and we believe it is an injustice to all the other dogs who are dying every day in
shelters.
The stress on
shelter staff is significant: no room to put ever more dogs; having to euthanize dogs to make room for new dogs; performing triage on sick animals when space is limited; having to make hard choices about evening and weekend heating and lighting with a small budget; no veterinarian or vet
tech on the staff; no evening or weekend staff; no time to network adoptable animals; no available homes in the surrounding communities; inadequate transport vehicles; little or no support from local government; an Animal Control Officer often doing double duty, responsible also for managing the
shelter; counties lacking even a
shelter or inside
kenneling.
She began working at St. Tammany Humane Society in October of 2008 as a
Kennel Tech, was promoted to
Kennel Manager six months later, and was promoted again several years later to
Shelter Manager.
On top of being the only NAF vet
tech at Eglin Air Force Base, working at Hurlburt Field and with the 7th Group Special Forces unit, she has volunteered thousands of hours organizing the 5K Strut Your Mutt for the Hurlburt Military Working Dog
Kennels, EZ Mobile Pet Clinic, PAWS Animal
Shelter, and more recently helped with the reunion of MWD Rocky and his human handler, Specialist Brown.
