Those four drive modes: advanced efficiency, which ensures low - rpm gear
shifts, a slower throttle and use of the powertrain's available cylinder deactivation; normal, the default
setting upon start - up; dynamic, which loosens up stability control and speeds up throttle; and
race — yes,
race — which turns stability control off and holds on to the lowest gear possible.
The Sportage inherited many other perks that are in the current Optima, including the sporty flat bottom steering wheel that is commonly seen in
race cars, as well as the paddle -
shifters and sport tuned
set - up with independent rear suspension.
These
settings are tied into four driving mode presets — Comfort, Normal, Eco and
Race — that also adjust the responsiveness of the engine and, if so equipped, the

Changes vary from physically violent at full throttle in
Race mode (where the
shifts are claimed to be 30 milliseconds faster than in the GTB) to smooth on part - throttle or in the Wet
setting.
Not sure what the similarities are between Vauxhalls easytronic and the auto box fitted to my Saab which has paddle
shifters but I find it very convenient in town just left in drive and great fun on the open road when manual is selected too, I would probably select a similar system in a sports car too, lets face it most of us drive in the real world alongside others and not on the
race track
setting records.
The downside is you can't mix and match your own
settings, and
Race mode automatically deactivates the ESP, so those new (and supposedly non-hardcore) customers attracted to the Clio by the chance to play at being Lewis Hamilton with their paddle -
shift gearboxes can only do so without an electronic safety net...

races; completing a lap within only a strict number of laps in time attack; head - to - head
races sees the player having to overtake their rival as quickly as possible within a
set time limit on a track day which is open to the public followed by holding your position; track days require a certain amount of overtakes within a
set time limit; and drag
races are knockout tournaments which requires the player to
shift through the gears manually to maximise their top speed in order to cross the finishing line ahead of the opposing rider in each round of the competition.
Slightly Mad Studios, however, has a bit of an advantage in that it's an expert in the
racing genre — having developed Need for Speed:
Shift, Test Drive and others — so it already has a core understanding and
set of technologies at its disposal.
In contrast to the customisable lengths of every
race weekend in career mode; the pro career mode is much harder as everything is turned up quite drastically to the hardest
settings across the board even to the point of
shifting gears manually with no braking assist, pit assist, strict corner cutting penalties, simulated vehicle damage, no flashbacks and much more besides.
