hardcovers is probably slimmer than it used to be, given the growing costs of warehousing,
shipping, and manufacturing even
as hardcover book sales are decreasing.
For example, returns were higher in mass market because it was easier and cheaper for a bookseller to strip the book's cover off and return it
as opposed to
hardcovers where the bookseller had to return the entire book (and sometimes pay for
shipping).
