Science Cinémathèque, a project funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, features
reviews of recent movies such as Werner Herzog's Grizzly Man and a series
of short student
films on such topics as wormholes, the patterns in pinecones and sunflowers, and Ignaz Semmelweis, the 19th - century Hungarian physician whose campaign to promote hand washing among doctors was met with near - universal scorn.
Falling just one

We didn't know what to expect from the panel; both
of these
films have been screened and
reviewed, so the typical Comic Con approach
of teasing some footage with a
short Q&A wouldn't work.
Ricky Church continues his countdown to Spectre with a
review of Licence to Kill... Timothy Dalton's time as James Bond is
short - lived as he makes his final appearance in his second

The restoration
of the original version
of The Gold Rush is covered in a 15 - minute
short, there's a technical analysis commentary track by Chaplin biographer Jeffrey Vance, and an illustrated booklet featuring an essay by
film critic Luc Sante and James Agree's
review of the 1942 version.
David Fincher's The Social Network, part two
of Paul Brunick's article on the recent state
of film criticism, Tom Mes on Masahiro Shinoda, Andrew Sarris on Sacha Guitry,
reviews of Tamara Drewe, Nuremberg, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Last Train Home, plus
short takes on Buried, Catfish, Heartbreaker, The Milk

The latter is the lone basis
of this
review, which is preferable to a pan & scan source, but the inaccessibility
of the original version
of the
film for those wanting it in its original aspect ratio is frustrating, especially given that the unrated edition runs two minutes
shorter than its theatrical counterpart for reasons I can't be sure
of without screener copies
of both to compare.

The
film took Sundance's Best Documentary Feature award, the Angulos partnered with Vice Films to produce an experimental arts & crafts
short film, and The Wolfpack received an overly positive
review from me during the glow
of the Tribeca
Film Festival.
Included are his four, award winning
short films: A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and the latest adventure A Matter
of Loaf and Death (which we have not
reviewed).
Worth seeing, though
short of it being a five star
film, despite the great performances, I felt a little underwhelmed, perhaps all the critics
reviews had raised my expectations.

Blu - ray Highlight: Disney didn't provide me a
review copy, but there's plenty
of bonus material that I'm looking forward to checking out, including the director commentary by the always amusing Joss Whedon and the newest Marvel
short film, «Item 47,» which supposedly played like gangbusters for the crowd at this year's San Diego Comic - Con.

films were the women.

Review: As Pixar sets go, this is pretty bare - bones, a single - disc set with the obligatory
short film opening act («One Man Band»), an unfunny longer
film starring tow truck Mater («Mater and the Ghostlight»), and a smattering
of «deleted scenes,» which are in fact a series
of rough sketches that actually take the plot in completely different directions.
Direct students to think about the
films, readings,
short stories they've
reviewed as part
of this lesson outline.
