dogs imprint humans as being

other canines, the mastiffs were
bred to take down large game and guard property, the flock guards were

Dogs of these
breeds should be tested for the gene that causes copper storage problems, especially if they
show evidence
of jaundice, spontaneous bleeding or
other symptoms related to the disease.
This is important - while there are many wonderful
dogs out there that haven't seen the inside
of a
show ring, if the breeder is truly trying to improve the
breed, they will be comparing their
dogs to
other breeders and trying to
breed dogs that match the standard.

Keeping up appearances is important in
breeding show dogs, but excessive focus on
show points can obscure the importance
of other aspects
of the
breed.
When some breeders pursue traditional, function - based goals while

of function a significant divergence in type and behavior can arise between the different strains within the

dogs to be evaluated and judges understand the
