I don't have an island, but when we redid our
kitchen many years ago, we added a piece
of counter / cabinet so that
side looks like an «L»
now.
Moved from the opposite
side of the home, the
kitchen now opens to a family room.
I was thinking using beadboard wallpaper on the back /
side of my
kitchen peninsula, but I'm not so sure
now that you mention potential dings — it's a high traffic area!
I took my sheep head that was over where the cow is
now and moved her to the other
side of the
kitchen.
What's great about it
now is the sense
of space created by the lack
of chair backs and since this table is in my big open
kitchen, you can easily sit on the bench with your back to the table and be part
of what's going on in the other
side of the room.
