In the new work, «Contrapposto Studies, I through VII» (the New York gallery lowercases the title), Mr. Nauman is seen from the front and
side walking backward or forward in contrapposto, rendered in both positive and negative images.
This can mean the shoulder blade on that
side is more protracted, which can affect the ability of the arm on that
side to swing
backward and the torso to rotate when
walking or running.
