The current method of
sideloading APK files, being kicking a Chromebook into Developer Mode, has more than a few caveats.
Reply is still in beta, and if you want to download it, you'll need to
sideload the APK file as it isn't available on the Play Store.
The one that users were most excited about was Project Astoria since they were actually able to
sideload APK files.
For those of you familiar with the Android operating system, this is exactly like either searching the Play Store for an app or
sideloading an APK file to manually install the application, respectively.
The app is only compatible with select devices for the time being, and
sideloading the APK file will not necessarily get you service.
Not exact matches
It is not as cut and dry as simply
sideloading in an
APK file, but there is a few steps involved.
So if you want to install Android apps on the Kindle Fire that aren't included in the Amazon App Store, you have two options: hunting down the
apk file and
sideloading via your computer or rooting the device entirely.
(It may be possible to «
sideload» apps onto the Kindle Fire using
APK files, by the way, but we won't know for sure until the tablet is made available for closer inspection.
(One note: If the Kindle Fire HD tablets are like the first - gen model, advanced users should be able to «
sideload» apps onto the devices using
APK files — legally or illegally — but let's face it, that isn't something the majority of users are going to do.)
As of BlackBerry OS 10.3,
APK files will no longer need to be
sideloaded but can instead be downloaded and directly installed through the Amazon Appstore integration.

Sideloaded Apps / folder and then launch ES Explorer on your Kindle Fire:
Sideloading apps on Android is incredibly easy — you just have to enable «Unknown sources» in your device's Security settings, then you're free to run an
APK installer
file to get the app installed.
Beyond that, just head to the link below from your Android device to download a copy of the
APK installer
file, then simply
sideload the app.
Just download the newest
APK for it, then
sideload it like any other
APK file.
You also have the option of bypassing all this and
sideloading the update by downloading the full
APK file.

While the code does not specifically say how administrators will be able to do this, it is quite likely that the
sideloading will be done simply by feeding an
APK file to Google's web - based Chrome OS management console.
