By actively acquiring, preserving, and providing access to the archives and manuscripts of
significant curators, innovative
commercial art galleries, not for profit art spaces, arts collectives and initiatives, the Archives & Manuscripts Collection seeks to document the history of the contemporary visual arts and the institutions and practices of
exhibition - making since the 1960s, representing a broad range of contemporary discourses and curatorial practices.
The gallery mounts six annual
exhibitions, handles the acquisition and resale of
significant works by modern and contemporary artists, builds collections, and sources art for
commercial and residential projects.

exhibition demonstrates the
significant changes in artistic practice that coincided with the burgeoning number of art schools and university art departments, nonprofit art spaces, alternative galleries and artist - run spaces and publications that not only provided
exhibition opportunities but, in the relative absence of
commercial support, also created a community that fostered an exchange of radical forms and ideas.
The
exhibition is envisioned to be the evidence of how a contemporary gallery can enjoy a
significant and prolonged
commercial success by staying true to the same formula up - and - coming galleries turn to when trying to make a name for themselves — staying true to their extraordinary artists.
