The only scenes that work happen to involve a good actor, Mekhi Phifer (8 Mile, Clockers), who actually manages to take trite dialogue and
silly romantic elements and make them work to his advantage.
A subplot involving a Cinderella-esque
romantic relationship between the Bergen King and a peasant girl takes up a large chunk of time and is, by far, the wackiest and
silliest element.
