I decided to draw on the walls with only black and gray and
silver to not only echo some of the marks and shapes found throughout the hanging
works, but to contrast the vibrant
color inherent in the
works.
Her personal
work includes gelatin
silver prints, hand -
colored silver prints, digital photographs, and most recently, the 19th century processes of daguerreotypes, tintypes and wet plate collodion negatives and positives (ambrotypes).
Bought from the Andy Warhol Foundation 15 years ago by Daniel Blau, these rolls of
colored mylar both emerge from Warhol's studio antics — the Factory was wallpapered in
silver mylar — and presage the vitrine - based
works of Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons.
Created by spraying paint onto canvas through carefully positioned swathes of gauze, this select series of
works develops the innovative technique deployed in Stingel's

The widely varied
work included in the exhibition represents the diversity of our faculty in terms of subject and medium, including analog and digital
color prints,
silver gelatin and platinum / palladium prints, video, and photographic sculpture.
In these early
silver works, the result was an iridescent layering of muted
color, in which the undercoats of paint glimmered through the overlying metallic sheen, creating an almost classical illusion of luminous space.
When invited into the Pace Paper studio, Drew immediately noted the differences from his own, (the studio's sky - light, the
color of the pigments) which ultimately and very organically found their absorption into his
work (i.e. the first use of
silver and blue in the artist's career.)
For his indoor and outdoor
works, he uses commercial building materials, such as plywood, lumber, metal wall studs, cinder blocks, and PVC pipes, which he then carefully sites in response to the environment, arranges into seemingly casual configurations, and paints with commercial enamel in DayGlo yellow, fluorescent orange,
silver, and other synthetic
colors.
The artist must consciously stay involved yet detached, allowing for an organic, disparate, final conversation between the
color pigments,
silver nitrate, and hidden subtitles of the
work.
The exhibition examines the connections in both artist's approach to layered imagery and experimentation and is comprised of one major painting by each of the artists, accompanied by hand -
