A key factor in getting your cover letter noticed is to highlight
any similar jobs you have held even if the position was not your most recent.
As opposed to repeating the same skills for
similar jobs you have held, think of how you can convey these skills in a different light.
Not exact matches

similar levels of experience.

For example, if your last four
jobs have been technical in nature — data management, computer programming, or something
similar — then you certainly don't need to include details about the two fast food
jobs you
held during high school and college.
This means, when you are trying for a
job you
have no education in but
hold similar skills required in the new career.
I
have been working for the past eight years in the field of [Internet Marketing]
holding very
similar responsibilities to the [said
job] requirements.
If you can show an employer, who might think less of your resume if you haven't
held a
job title
similar to the one you're applying for, that your skills add up to awesomeness, that's a big plus.
And by doing so, «anybody who
has held a
similar job to you is going to sound the same,» she said.
The result is that each
job is pigeon holed for a small group of very select few college grads that
have held the exact same
job before or something very
similar.
You might want to skip the chronological format if you
've worked in relatively
similar positions for your entire career or
held the same
job for a very long period of time.
If you
have held similar jobs in the past... do not just cut & paste that same information... b / c they know.
The body of this section is very subjective and depends on how many
jobs you
have and how
similar or different the tasks, responsibilities and achievements are for each company, or for each position you
held at one employer.
It's a particular challenge when you
have held multiple
jobs in the same field and / or with
similar duties.
If the
jobs you
've most recently
held are very
similar to the one you're currently applying for, you may best be served by using a chronological resume.
You
've held many
jobs over the length of your career with the same or
similar job titles and responsibilities and need to streamline your resume while minimizing duplicate work experience.
Be sure to include specific experiences and skills that will let the employer know that you understand what the
job entails and that you
have held similar positions in the past.
