simple plot goes through a metamorphosis where I was driven as much by finding out what was really going on as I was by the puzzles.

The reason for this, as it turns out, is pretty
simple; the people who like seeing a spoiler - heavy trailer will
go and watch the movie when they see a spoilerific trailer, while those that don't like it usually don't dislike it enough to not
go watch the movie anyway, thus from a marketing standpoint it makes more sense to load up the trailer with
plot points and reap the benefits.
It's a
simple plot device that has been the driving motivation behind some of the best action movies ever, with a prime recent example being the mighty John Wick who had a pure, direct reason to
go on a rampage; some jerks killed the dog his dead wife gave to him, and also stole his beloved car.
The
plot is
simple, short and sweet, with nothing more
going on behind the scenes than necessary and when you finally come to the end of the game, it feels satisfying.
The
plot certainly isn't
going to be the main draw of Oceanhorn but it is inoffensive and
simple.
If you assume that the model runs are basically correct in the long term (ie, that the amount of warming that they predict in the long term is
going to happen, and that the «pause» is just a pause caused by natural variation), then it is a
simple matter to
plot the contribution from natural variability.
