Opening your way forward (or backward as the case may be since the game requires you to backtrack on many occasions) is more often than not accomplished by completing the game's
simple switch puzzles or by defeating all of the enemies in an area.

Requiring you only to change character a couple times to exchange an item using the dumbwaiter, this is a
simple task, but later
puzzles require more
switching and the use of both characters.
These dungeons have you solving
simple puzzles such as activating
switches in the correct order, lining up dots using
switches, pushing slippery ice blocks in their designated locations, and so on.
The game is a mix of action with real time combat and exploration as you enter dungeons and solve
simple puzzles such as pushing stones on
switches to open doors.
Your mission objective is to infiltrate the enemy's compound and
switch off their satellite system, achieved by solving a couple of
simple puzzles in each screen to progress.
There's a really good escalation to the
puzzles as you go along in the game, too, starting out with just

switches, and eventually introducing traps and enemies that can kill you before finishing off with a rather large boss fight against the giant snake you've seen stalking you through the whole game.

puzzles do a great job at keeping the game from ever getting boring thanks to their
simple yet creative solutions, and new
puzzle mechanics keep being added throughout the adventure for more variety, like
switching between day and night cycles, among others.

puzzles range from
simple platforming sections and moving heavy objects to activate
switches, to much more complex ones like moving a timed explosive through obstacles courses to destroy frail walls or using them to activate pressure plates, and more.
