well, truthfully, we've been waiting for
it since Shenmue II on the original XBox; we just never had definitive hope until recently.
It's been almost 16 years
since Shenmue 2 came out on the Dreamcast, itself and the first game being insanely popular.
Since Shenmue III will (hopefully) be released at the end of 2017, it would be a great idea for SEGA to release them before Shenmue III comes out.
It will probably be a space channel 5 sequel,
since Shenmue 3 and / or remakes of 1 and 2 are what fans really want.
