But frankly people are seizing on anecdotes for climate change in the solar system that would rightly be derided if I was to use analogous
arguments on Earth (i.e. global warming is happening because of a
big storm, or that a
single glacier was melting).

argument about climate consists of the scientists having to refute claims made by sceptics based on minutiae without regard for the
bigger picture (2008 being colder than 1998 despite the general warming trend, or corrections upwards to the temperature of a
single Tasmanian weather station despite the fact overall there was no bias).
Working up to his
big finish, Gunter then ratchets up the rhetoric, accusing climate scientists of «double think» in criticizing skeptics for basing
arguments on a
single year of data, but being guilty of the same themselves.
Perhaps Mr McKibben's role is to act on a project by project basis, but I would expect both he and Dr. Hansen to see the
big picture — if you want deep cuts to GHG emissions, you need a broad - based policy, not a hopelessly leveraged
argument against a
single project.
