This 6 - week class will develop
skills needed for you and your
dog to conduct therapy
dog visits to a variety of
facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, residential treatment centers, hospices and more.
Working out of a retrofitted space, our
skilled surgical team safely and compassionately alters more than 6,000
dogs, cats and rabbits at our current
facility.
He was also involved in developing a
dog training program at the Mansfield Correctional
Facility that utilizes inmates to train shelter
dogs in order to learn a
skill and make the
dogs more adoptable.
Pit Sisters places
dogs with the
facility's inmates as part of a program called Teaching Animals and Inmates Life
Skills, or TAILS.
These individuals have completed the one - week intensive course at the Beckman's
facility — gaining the
skills & knowledge to be called Beckman's Certified
Dog Trainers.
Therapy
dogs also provide motivation and support for veterans in rehabilitation and medical
facilities as well as those in
skilled nursing care and hospice.
This led her to working in boarding, training, and daycare
facilities, where she gained knowledge under other positive,
skilled, reward based trainers, as well as honing observational
skills and hands - on experience with many different
dogs.
The activities are high - energy play periods meant to expend energy while developing social
skills at our beautiful Dalton

facility!
These organizations have similar requirements for therapy
dog candidates: be friendly with other
dogs (several therapy
dogs may be present during visitations at the same
facilities), be at least 1 year old, have lived with the owner for at least 6 months, consistently perform basic obedience
skills, remain calm when being handled (petted, grabbed, hugged, etc.) by different people, and tolerate the sights, smells sounds, and equipment found in nursing home and hospital settings (wheelchairs, walkers, I - V poles, etc.).
Many doggy daycare
facilities and pet - shops offer training classes for
dogs of all ages and
skill levels.
The group trains
dogs to become service
dogs, hearing
dogs,
facility dogs, and
skilled companion
dogs.
