This 4 hour course is offered the day prior to the Birth
Doula Workshop and is essential,

This 21 / 2 - day hands - on workshop is designed to prepare advanced level birth

First, Have a doulaor another trained birth support person present because
doulas and labor coaches are
skilled at taking you through labor with
as few interventions
as possible.
All birth
doulas associated with The
Doula Experience are
skilled in the art of labor support and have a true respect for the process of birth and regard for the abilities of birthing women,
as well
as a desire to be supportive and caring.
Keeping your knowledge base and
skills up to date are an important part of working
as a
doula.

For several years, I joined homebirth midwives in guild meetings, workshops, conferences, listservs, and assisted them
as they cared for women, or worked alongside them
as I offered my
doula skills to their clients.
In addition to looking at each potential
doula's experience,
skills, personality etc. we also make sure to check with her to see if working with a group of
doulas is a good fit for her (and her family)
as well.
I see these «birth attendant
doulas»
as having practical knowledge and
skills and the understanding of when to transfer to another location and when to handle what is in the moment.
