skirmish maps, a local multiplayer mode and a map editor (only available on PC).

map and dismantle enemies with your hands in close quarters
skirmishes.
As for
skirmish mode it lets you create a randomized
map by typing in a seed, which you can then share with friends if you want to compete.
Strangely the alterations on
maps and varied game modes you experience in
Skirmish aren't available to players in the standard
Skirmish game mode.
Skirmishes are where players can battle against the AI on a selected
map.
These are far more symmetrical, but the gameplay tends to devolve into an endless
skirmish in one small area, and certain heroes are much less effective on these
maps than on the more common attack and defense
maps.
I thought it was a cute, optional mechanic at first, and just steadfastly ignored the
skirmish markers on the
map, much happier running off to fight someone the old fashioned way.
What it means in terms of gameplay is switching between roaming the world
map looking for people, items and big bad things, battling the big bad things, facing real time strategy
skirmish challenges and managing every aspect of your new realm.
Skirmish is also on offer from the campaign, currently allowing you to fight as either the Orcs, Humans or Elves with
maps to do battle on and varying difficulty levels.

The bigger problems with
skirmish are a lack of customisation options and a failure to tie into the metagame:
skirmish is limited to 1v1 matches (in a game where most
maps are intended for > 2 players), you can't save
skirmish replays, and you can't unlock new units by playing this mode.
The game is split into 20 missions, each with three objectives (each one resulting in a trophy if you achieve them), a standard Multiplayer mode, where you can play against another person, and a
Skirmish mode where you pick a few pieces of criteria and the
map / heroes are created at random.
This simple element can provide a lot of fun, and gives both teams a chance to take
map control by getting the big boy weapon — not to mention it will allow for some pretty chaotic
skirmishes, which is what Halo is all about.
The already existing Operations mode pits players against each other across multiple
maps in a single
skirmish.
In fact, the missions that were the most fun in single - player were the more open
maps that mimicked the feel of multiplayer or
skirmish games.
This huge overhaul of the multiplayer and
skirmish game modes redefines the Act of Aggression experience, introducing single - resource economy, new airstrikes, 3 new
maps, and more.
This new patch adds a new
map, Namsan, and a new mode by the name of
