A comprehensive new scientific report has warned that Australia faces a temperature rise of more than 5 °C by the end of the century, outstripping the rate of warming projected for the rest of the world, unless drastic action is taken to
slash global greenhouse gas emissions.

In December 2015, the world agreed to the Paris Accord; to
slash greenhouse gas emissions to hold
global average temperature increase to 1.5 degrees C (over what it was before the Industrial Revolution), and, if we miss that target, to as far below 2 degrees as possible.

global warming law, passed in 2006, requires the state's
greenhouse gas emissions to be
slashed to 1990 levels by 2020, amounting to a 30 % cut over expected levels.
