All things said, the text of «Beowulf» would prove nearly impossible to craft into a commercial motion picture if it were to adhere to complete
slavish adaptation, as those great early epic stories, born from oral tradition, weren't exactly rife with depth of characters or motivations.
Watchmen is however more than
a slavish adaptation of the graphic novel.
Edgar Wright didn't forget that this is a movie, and while he shows obvious love for the books, he didn't fall into the trap of

slavish attention to historical / period detail, particularly in terms of dress, and have a cool colour palette — possibly taking their tone from grey / white mansions in large green parks in England, where it never stops raining — but this film is different.
