sleep training your twins!
But, when is a good time to start
sleep training twins?
I am happy to share some pros and cons about
sleep training twins at various ages.
As a mom of twins and a Certified Sleep Consultant, I often get asked, «How soon can I start
sleep training twins?»
I found a great article on
sleep training twins based on my favorite sleep guru Dr. Marc Weissbluth (author of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins: A Step - by - Step Program for Sleep - Training Your Multiples), but it didn't really address the issue of crying twins waking each other in the same crib or bedroom.
For me personally, I tried to
sleep train my twins in the same room but noticed that for naps I had to split them up until they were fully sleep trained.

I learned two things from
sleep training my twin boys: 1) I am a hypocrite and; 2) the most challenging child - rearing tasks contain the most intimate opportunities for bonding with my twins.

I chose Dr. Marc Weissbluth's
sleep training method for both my
twins and singleton and when they were six weeks old I started practicing his recommended schedule and following it consistently.

While we can't yet implement formal
sleep training for
twins, we can encourage healthy
sleep hygiene and self - soothing.
If your
twins are past the newborn stage and still waking very frequently at night or taking short naps (or worse, skipping naps), then it may be time to
sleep train.

twins who are 11 months or older, you may be wondering if it's too late to

My hypocrisy within this process stemmed from feeling conflicted about how to handle
sleep training in a way that was best for my children combined with sheer exhaustion, as well as my own insecurities about my day - time ability to give my
twins individual attention.
I also remember my first
twin case and how intimidated I was at the thought of TWO babies going through the
sleep training process.

I separated my
twins for
sleep training at 5 1/2 months, then put them back together in the same room once they were
sleeping well on their own and dropped their last middle - of - the - night feed around 7 or 8 months.
