I didn't grow up on hymns like some others, I grew up at the kitchen table of grateful
baby disciples humming happy - clappy choruses of the renewal movement, so I sing into the cavern of the bathtub with my hair bound up and my
hands slippery with soap, hanging onto the last few
baby dimples that remain in our house.
Washing a newborn is
slippery and a pretty scary task, trying to hold a wriggly
baby with one
hand and wash them with another is a serious parenting challenge.
It sounds pretty simple, but keeping one
hand on a
slippery, squirmy
baby while reaching for things like soap and shampoo isn't always easy.
However, a wet soapy
baby is very
slippery, so you must always keep a
hand (and an eye!)
It's great having your
hands free and not having to hold a

baby for those nerve - wracking first bath times!
Washing off any soap on the
baby (which tends to make them more
slippery) as well as having dry
hands before touching
baby can be helpful.
