Being
estrogen dominant can affect your thyroid, causing your body's
metabolism to
slow down.
The body DOES have several systems in place that can
slow metabolism somewhat - studies done on moderately hypocaloric individuals on extended diets show a moderate decrease in thyroid hormone production, changes in leptin / ghrelin levels (two hormonal mediators of food intake and
metabolism), and slight changes in androgen /
estrogen levels.
But when you develop resistance to your seven major metabolic hormones — cortisol, thyroid, testosterone, growth hormone, leptin, insulin, and
estrogen — your body adjusts by increasingly raising your hormone levels and ultimately
slowing down your
metabolism.
In addition, a
slow metabolism of
estrogen, which leaves too much unmetabolized active
estrogen known as estradiol in the body, can be a problem for both women and men.
