I've been experimenting lately with growing microgreens, which are essentially very
small edible plants (like lettuce, radishes, beets, watercress, spinach, herbs and greens) that are harvested when they are very young instead of being allowed to grow to full size.

This investigation will not only be beneficial for space exploration, but it will also show how communities on Earth with little to no agricultural land and sunlight can grow
edible plants in
small spaces at relatively low costs.
The millet group of
plants, like rice and wheat, are grasses that produce

edible seeds.
The
plant has also culinary uses (mainly in its native Mediterranean region); lavender leaves, petals, and flower tips are all
edible straight from the
plant, and they can be added in this way to soups and salads in
small quantities.

My wife and I already had a
smaller deer fence around our vegetable garden (infrastructural investment is a central plank of lazivore methodology) as it is next to impossible to grow
