by major dealers; are sometimes buying from Instagram or other online images without seeing the
work in person; and are less willing to gamble on the emerging
artists represented
by small and midsize
galleries.
The show includes

Gallery artists as well as
works by Matthew Weigle and Yin Yong Chun.
As a time marked
by underground political dissent, the 1970s was a decade when
artists began
working small,
working privately, and
working beyond the boundaries of commercial
gallery system.
Considered in terms of the social history of American art, however, he's an important figure, because, as the art historian David Driskell writes in the exhibition catalog, he was «among a
small number of African - American painters in the nation
working abstractly at the time, and he was among the few
artists of color who were represented
by a mainstream
gallery in New York.»
As winter closes in, we will fill the
gallery with
smaller works by the
artists whose sculptures punctuate Lynden's landscape.

Works, 1961 - 1973,» some early drawings
by H.C Westermann (1922 - 1981), done (as I overheard the gallerist explaining) when the
artist was in the hospital being treated for testicular cancer — which he survived: his wife had brought him some crayons and paper, and he
worked on a group of
small drawings, some in the
artist's characteristic graphic, cartoon - related style, some in a more abstract and less over-determined mode — after he recovered, these were packed away and never shown until now.

For his 2016 exhibition at Upfor, Memory Theater, Chowdhury transformed the

In late May, the architect Daniel Libeskind spoke at the New York
Gallery Luxembourg & Dayan where he collaborated with Daniella Luxembourg to curate an exhibition of thirteen
