In a
smaller gallery, more sculptures, in wax and gesso, were displayed: Naked women, cast in black, lay on their
backs on a long table, like cadavers being delivered to a class of medical students.
The

gallery are ten
small works all also dated 2015 through which one can trace morphing iterations of motifs.
In Cell Project Space's main
gallery space artist Ian Giles has painted the
back wall in faded olive green and there are
small ceramic bulb - like bowls with aromatherapy oils burning inside them producing tiny streams that float above the first bench in the show.
Having trained in academic French painting, so to speak, you make visible references to Western art, especially in your works in the main
gallery, while in the
smaller gallery toward the
back — a beautiful, dimly lit environment — your paintings are ghostly, palimpsest - driven images that compel one to look closely.
Over the years I have seen Lewis Baltz's photographs in
small groupings most recently at the Whitney and a little while
back in a Chelsea
gallery New Topographics themed show.
Finally, a couple
smaller sculptures of mirror glass and steel will sit in Greene Naftali's
back gallery and function as the model for a «pavilion the artist deems impossible to realize,» according to a release.

The
gallery's
back room features «The China Cabinet,» an array of
small paintings of vases, cups, and pitchers.
(Hung high in a narrow, unlit corridor, these thirty - three
small square canvases are first visible over the
back wall of the
gallery in which the «Pavement Karaoke» paintings are installed.)
Shear's two instances of larger canvases feel massive in this company, and while the titular painting's hail of aerosol'd black headlights lunges at the viewer with overt aggression (which, to me, would feel far less pronounced if rendered in a
smaller scale), Autocorrect in the
back gallery works sublimely... but precisely because much of that canvas is untouched by any media.
