Instead of mounting the scratching pole directly to the hardwood floor, I created tension with a large screw at the top (using the face of
the smaller file drawer front as a buffer between it and the ceiling) and secured the pole to a 2x4x4 block covered in carpet scraps.
So when it comes to our office, my hubby & I have one
small file drawer (when it gets filled, it's time to «weed»), one drawer that holds extra printer paper, etc., a shoe bag on the back of the door holds our office supplies (pens, glue, small electronics (mouse, thumb drives, etc.) out of sight and off of the desk.
