My journalistic duty and general inquisitiveness led me to manually
dial through each setting and I could easily distinguish the features of each, from added torque and limited traction control in the Sand setting, to higher revs in
Snow and an incredibly jerky Rock Crawling
mode designed for slow going and a very light touch.
The driver can select
modes for
snow, grass, gravel, mud ruts, sand, or rock crawling by the spin of a
dial on the centre console.
We're also able to lock the rear differential on our Cherokee Trailhawk, and for most of the day we have the SelecTerrain
dial in Rock
mode, which is also exclusive to the Trailhawk (other 4WD Cherokees have only Auto, Sport,
Snow and Mud / Sand) and only active in 4WD Low.
On the CTS Vsport, the comfort - biased Tour, tauter Sport and slick
Snow programs are joined by a dedicated Track setting with a Stabilitrac - abetted Competition
mode that
dials even more stiffness into the shocks and recalibrates the Vsport's electronic limited slip differential to allow for even higher - intensity flogging.
This system requires no input from the driver and comes with the Selec - Terrain
dial pre-programmed with Auto,
Snow, Mud, and Sand
modes.
