Giroud seemed not capable of doing those, his fricks, backheels, and
hold up play are
so good but not enough when
playing with a team having 11 players in their own goal and i think this is where the King got it all.

Westbrooks isn't quite as big as your average 3 - 4 defensive lineman,
so I do have some questions about how well he will
hold up against the run, especially if they
play him inside on early downs.
I rate Giroud for all of his attributes (
hold up and link
play, ability to bully defenders, defensive contribution from set pieces and corners etc)
so even that is highly debatable.
Benteke is a better finisher, passer, and dribbler than Giroud and may even in this sh*t
hold up play afc fans keep taking about (Watch him against
so called big teams)... regarding stats, Benteke
plays for AV for football sake,
so he gets far less support and chances... Mind that I'm not criticizing and I'm not taking anything from Giroud improvement this season, it's plain comparison... Though, I want someone better than Benteke
He has proven to be more than a poacher
so far with his
hold up play and ability to keep attacks going.
Why haven't we??? Ramsey admitted the other day that the team had let Arsene down on more than one occasion,
so it'd be nice if Arsene
held his hands
up & admitted he got something wrong once in a while, like that shocking team he picked to
play Forest!!!
Its nice to see people comment on sanogood
hold up play and runs but hell even Emile Heskey was quality at
holding the ball
up hence why he was Owen's foil for
so many years for England yet how many goals was he scoring a season?
If it was
up to me my back 5 would look like this Kilasinac Mustafi Koscielny
Holding Bellerin Now im not getting 8m a year

Welbeck and Chambers
played their first games after injury
so that was a positive, and players like
Holding and Wilshere got more useful game time as did
up and coming young Gunners like Maitland - Niles and Nelson.
Besides several teams who have questions surrounding one or possibly two players, there is no squad that has
so many issues heading into the final week of the transfer window... even Monaco, who have lost numerous players from their starting 11 have less controversy swirling in and around their club and they have champion's league
play to contend with this season... just think of how ridiculous this situation is especially considering that we have had the same manager for over 20 years... no team should be better organized than ours... if nothing else, that should be the one advantage this team
holds over all others, yet the exact opposite has occurred... this fact is even more disturbing considering the main argument against removing Wenger from his managerial position was that there was no suitable replacement and that people feared some sort of perceived drop - off if a new manager was brought into the mix... based on what we've witnessed since the time of his contract renewal a monkey with a magic eight ball could have done an adequate job... I hate to make jokes, in light of our current dilemma, but this team is
so screwed
up if I don't laugh about it, the only plausible response is to either cry or do something incredibly destructive... just look around this squad and try to see what our delusional manager sees that allow him to make such positive statements about our current team
Alexis gets chance to
play as a CF for periods as Theo can drop out wide easier than Giroud, if Welbz is
playing on the right then all 3 of our players could
play wide and CF.. The
hold up play Giroud is great at won't be needed
so much as Ozil and Alexis can do
hold onto the ball and then bring others into
play.
what i have seen in copa america that guy would be like to like replacement of giroud. His finishing was
so poor he had sony many chances to score against venezuela.Even his
hold up play is not even close to top class.i would bring in griezmann as RW and stick with this same front line, if no other strikers are available.
Maybe less
so if we really
hold onto Sanchez and if he really
plays up to his abilities next season.
Sunny we are the worst team to
play for a draw, we just don't know how to do that and always when we try to
hold on to a lead or try for draw we end
up being confused and lose always,
so i say go for a win its the way we
play and lets just hope our recent signings will bring stability in the near future to be able to defend and be able to
hold tams better
... he
played there against crystal palace, Everton 2 season ago and it was a disaster... our build
up is majorly done closer to d centre circle than d oppositions box... that's y girouds
hold up play is vital... either we go with dat path or we look for a striker who is lightning quick (
so when we make d final pass, it doesn't get wasted), uses both legs to shoot on sight, with good accuracy...
playing Sanchez, who is not very good with his back to goal as a 9 is useless and though fast,
holds on to d ball a lot tryn to get d best angle to shoot... we need a striker who is very intelligent with d timing of his runs... too bad Walcott is as intelligent as a sheep, cld have been d perfect cf...
He can
hold up the ball when he is on form, he can bring others into
play and IMO we should seriously consider the prospect of 2CF being a tactic
so we can see the best out of Giroud alongside Lacazette.
KickAss i thought he (AW) got it just right this time, we complain he
plays players for too long when its unnecessary like Sanchez replacing Gibbs who dose a good job in that left position and a great defender to
hold the lead, Coq is been eased slowly
so he doesn't have a relapse of his injury, and Theo was to use
up time, i don't see any thing wrong with this we did win comfortably
since he's
so good at assisting or creating chances or bringing others into the game or
holding up the ball and less of a potent goalscorer, it'd be fair to say he could try out
playing in midfield or behind a Lethal striker!
we have shown times without number we don't do pressure, we lack grit and balls,
so if the title race goes to the wire, with each match
plays dxd under enormous pressure to
hold on to the top spot or chase the leaders down you cn be rest assured we will find a way to bottle it, its what we do best...... and as soon as we are out of contention and pressure is off, just watch us rack
up wins after wins, in time to nab the 4th spot
i was very impressed with coquelin but we could all see the way newcastle was fowling him im worried it only a matter of time before his injured
so we need suffcient cover arteta is ok but if something happens to coquelin (i pray it doesn't) where his out for a couple of games arteta can not
play a bunch of games for 90 mins all the time
so im hoping arsene is looking at a DM has we speak also on theo, to be fair to him he actually did ok great movement but it brings me to think that giroud and walcott can
play together in a 442 formation because giroud can provided the
hold up play for walcott to make runs and walcott can make the runs to allow space for giroud if walcott has gioroud finishing and giroud walcott pace we properly would be with man city at the top of the league
In addition, just like Giroud, Benteke is also very adept at
holding the ball
up using his big frame,
so Arsenal really don't need to tweek the system if he's
playing up front.
When a player is eable to beat players with ease, and hit the ball the way he wants to,
so in ends
up in the goal, whats point in this
hold up play in first place then?
Giroud forgets that his role as a striker is to score goals. His
hold up play is excellent, but a striker should be concentrating on scoring. He needs to change his game
so he can loose his marker and
play a more effective role for the team.
no Arteta is not a superb anchor man, hes mediocre all round, every time we
play Chelsea an Arteta
plays i can see the fear in his face b4 the match, cos he knows physicaly an technically he comes
up short. An the fact that the top people at the club were
so eager to keep him is very worrying, an just reaffirms my long
held opinion, that we can't win a major trophy under Wenger
Unlike many I'm not scared at all if he leaves. You know why?Because I've seen better players leave the club and seen where we ended
up.He's very good and world class but not as good as many think.Forget stats for a moment and look at his quality.I also hope the mistake of keeping Mr.
Hold up at the club would not be made. Here at Arsenal we compromise a lot and we always ignore the cracks until it's too late.Wait till Lacazette goes for a three or four month injury. Then we'll know we never learn.I hope Bellerin doesn't make this mistake of leaving Arsenal. He has
so so much to learn. His game still lacks that something. He needs to know how to maximise his potentials and be consistent. That will only come with more
playing time and patience.Arsene should not even think of letting him go as we will have to spend money on a RB and besides we need him.
This should be enough reason to highlight the need for a creative CM similar to Cazorla
so that either Xhaka or Coquelin can be liberated and focus more on maintaining and balancing the middle in defense; ball possession and
hold up play.
Had it been walcot is stronger as giroud,
so it wl suit him, bt still he is more hazardous nd dangerously lookng to the opponents wl upfront thn giroud, we wl be happy to see hm gettng more
playing time
so that he can be more aquinted to the position, hence goals wl be scored, bt for giroud let him to be a bck
up to speedy theo nd need to be coming very late in the game 70th to 80th minutes after we score nd win, to help
hold nd waste some minutes.Eventhough everyone has his own peculiar advntage.KWANKWASIYYA GUNNERS.
So it would be nice to have more diversity
up front with someone like Benzema who could give us a combo of OG's
hold up play and speed.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of
play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and
play» mentality where players
play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming
up into the final 3rd,
so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through
so that we can advance
play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest
Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted
play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was
playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back
so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched
played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey
holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks
so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball
play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he
played with Coq Wenger always seemed to
play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone
so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been
played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London,
so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he
holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball
up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence...
so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
So for me Wellbeck is what we needed, he is young, physic, pacey, can score from long range and tape ins, his back to goal
play is brilliant, his
hold up is good, he can win fouls and penalties.
i think this could officially be the start of the end for wenger his blind arrogance has cause him to buy welbeck in the sheer belief that AGAINST THE ODDS HE CAN BEAT THE REST OF THE BIG 4 WITH ONE ARM BEHIND HIS BACK we should be buying top top top european c / l standard players not sunderland spuds everton standard players thats about welbecks standard of club in all truthful reality he is an honest hard working player but wenger thinks he can coach the mediocrity out of him he is truely insane its a guaranteed source of goals we need not more fancy
hold up play and «pace» and missing chance after chance
so the postman is to be joined by the manchester metro tram absolute disgrace he has kidded on ozil and sanchez they must be wondering what is going on atm they are seeing the true wenger now just panicking and not panicking very well to that effect and for some reason wenger has gone all kinky for english players for some strange reason at least chambers has great potential welbeck has past that stage and is a seasoned pro now and he is no where near what we need wenger is trying to show how great he is by whiping the back out of the same players week after week in the vain hope that he can win the league without rotating ever and they will get injured and he wont have learned his lesson and we will pay for it in the end best last day transfer would have been a 4 year contract for klopp
lol...
so Giroud makes
up for lack of goals, dribbling, poor finishing, skills, set piece mastery, speed etc by putting his body on defenders and
holding play?
We all know Wenger to be the great Converter, he should just make Giroud our DM, that guy's
hold -
up play is second to none and he rarely scores
so that won't be a problem.
We could attack more effectively from deep versus Giroud's
hold -
up play which requiries pressing
so - high
up the pitch against tight formations that we spend most of our time in the final 1 / 3rd inviting bad tackles.
I do not think Giroud is worried as yet, it comes down to who gets more
play time, although the style of football may be moving away from
hold up, back to pacey forwards base on what we have seen of the team
so far.
even when he suffered a serious knee injury, instead of accepting the fact that he would never stick his legs into the spaces that were crucial for someone with straight ahead speed to succeed, the club actually contemplated giving him a chance to
play up top where his lack of physicality, size and
holding up play talents would been on display for all to see... these are not the actions of a club that really cares about winning at the highest levels, but they are the actions of a club that wasn't interested in spending the necessary resources to purchases a world - class striker, which is usually the most expensive position on the pitch... instead we adopted the horrible phrase «like a new signing» and proceeded to allow this ridiculous experiment to carry on, which ultimately caused some discomfort on the training pitch and inside the locker room as players battled for a position that shouldn't have been theirs for the taking in the first place... don't get me wrong, I believe that Walcott is a talented player, who can help a team reach their goals, if their goals are relatively modest... just look at the teams who supposedly expressed interest in his services and they weren't the kind of clubs who aspire to win at the highest levels... as for the reasons why he hasn't been bitching and moaning about moving on just look at the wage benefits he receives from our club and his obvious desire to enjoy the societal advantages that come with
playing in North London for a club with worldwide appeal...
so instead of continuing to try to fix a coat with a broken zipper simply move on and buy a new and better coat
his
hold up play is
so good that he allows the defenders to come to him, he beats them with skill and pure pace and then pires or ljunberg is already awaiting the pass... that is world class, strikers like henry etoo Ronaldo drogba, even lewnadoski and co have learnt to drift to any direction or wing
so as to pull defenders away from the box and create space for other mates..
Giroud's staute and
hold up play may offer something different for Arsenal but his range is much more limited,
so unlike Sanchez and Welbeck he can not do much for us in a wide role.
Would our line
up be
so much better if we
played Mustafi and Xhaka over
Holding and Elneny?
I honestly think wenger is doing all the right moves this year, i think he's deliberately
holding ramsay and giroud back until November for TOT / Man U. Maybe he'll give me my wish and
play 2 ST
up front for once
so we can begin to really terrify teams in the PL.
NB / never rely on any other thing except goals if u have no distinguishable xtics especially the infamous
hold up play... not everybody buys that sanogo
so be warned
At the start of the season he did not
hold up well for the first couple of games after Giroud got injured
so he needs to try and prove he can
play regularly.
Gabriel needs to go
so we can give
Holding and Belik more
playing time to boost their experience and confidence. His time at the club has been average, his only got few decent performances for the club.He will also free
up space for foreign players.
Southampton
up next in league and I would like to see eleny or chambers used in midfield to overcome wanyama and co we no saints will press and Harrass
so we have to be clever and bypass midfield occasionally use giroud get him to
hold up and start
playing from their third.
Keeping Giroud on this squad with the promise of substantial
playing time... the offensive tactics of this squad is way too indirect and is much more reflective of a
hold up play / cross in the box scheme that suits Giroud's skill - sets but can't continue if Wenger really wants Lacazette to be successful... without Sanchez on the pitch this offence is a little bit like a headless chicken, passing sideways, providing relatively poor service to undersized players and sub-par finishing... this isn't to suggest that Arsenal can't perform without Alexis but this offensive scheme is antiquated and ill - advised, especially considering our personnel (poor man's Barca)... if Arsenal doesn't want to pay the price to get topnotch players
so we can press high and
play all out attack, we would be better served by adopting a counterattack approach... unfortunately that would mean developing a far less skittish defensive group that could withstand the pressure and we all know that Wenger hasn't opted for that approach considering our defensive pickups in recent years and the lack of a «boss» in the midfield
It would be nice if Ramsey and Wilshere can build
up a «psycic» connection between them, it could be a way to
play without a dedicated
holding CM for large parts of games, Wilshere is doing the job for England and we all seen how Ramsey can tackle when in form
so together they could do a wonderful job bossing the CM.
Both Giroud and Walcot are useless, but Giroud is better... You will never see walcot involved in d team build
up play nor see him
hold the ball
up under pressure from the opponent... he cant
hold d ball, he has cost us
so many goals when being dispossessed easily....
