I've replaced the spark plugs and wires and verified they're all sparking (
so ignition coil packs are fine), and I've replaced the fuel filter and determined that the fuel pump is fine.

The usual idea is that with 2 wires; one is
ignition controlled 12v and goes to the resistor (block on the side with two terminals)
so that the
coil receives about 9v during normal running.
If you haven't changed your spark plugs, crumbling valve cover gaskets that leak into the spark plug wells were a common problem on the 05 - 06 VQ35DE REV - UP engines,
so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to at least pull the
ignition coils and check them for oil.
The engine ECU powers the actuators on the vehicle,
so you need to check things like: fuel pump runs when
ignition key is turned to the run position, power to injectors, power to
ignition coils, brake lights working.
When I meassure the voltage of the wire that goes to the
Ignition coil, it reads 12.4 V,
so that should be good.
So you add the feedback signal (Fig. 1C above), which goes low when the
ignition signal is received, and high when the
coil is charged.
Stalling at idle could be due to a faulty mass airflow sensor, faulty camshaft or crankshaft position sensors, worn spark plugs, wires or defective
ignition coil (s), inadequate fuel delivery or pressure (clogged fuel filter, injectors, faulty fuel pump or pump circuit), contaminated or old gasoline, defective throttle position sensor, faulty idle air control valve, leaks in the EGR system, intake vacuum leaks, and
so forth.
Your vehicle uses a wasted spark type
ignition system,
so cylinder number 4 and cylinder number 7 both use the same
coil.
There have only been three weak points I've found
so far: The car has an appetite for summer tires (expect a new set every 25 - 30k miles or
so), the reliability hasn't been perfect (
so far I've had to do the water pump and fuel pump, which are common failure points on the 2.0 TSI motor, in addition to new
ignition coils), and the insurance has been on the pricey side.
So far i've replaced all engine
ignition coils, water pump, serpentine belt, numerous bulbs, Engine mount, control units for both headlights, i've just been told the rear anti-roll bar is corroded and it's back in the Audi dealer for a rubbing noise from the steering rack on 5th Feb 2010.
