Instead, I find that for the first week or so of nursing a baby I have to take a deep breath and mentally prepare for the first minute or
so of each nursing session because it is quite uncomfortable.

but we rocked him to sleep in the chair by his bed for another almost 5 months and then he got
so big he didn't care to
so we put him in his crib after a
nursing session and lay next to crib (one
of us, likely my hubby) until he falls asleep.
So, while I had an extra hour
of sleep (with no one touching me or needing to
nurse) my husband took our two and played and did a little photo
session in their pyjamas.
But
of course, once you start the
nursing session, you can't just hop up and head to the fridge,
so keep something to snack on close at hand.
Giving just a little bit
of formula to my son after each
nursing session «topped him off» and enabled him to go a little longer between feedings (you know,
so I only had to feed him every hour and a half instead
of every 20 minutes), which allowed me to rest, which helped lower my stress and increase my milk supply.
So don't limit your
nursing sessions worrying that you'll run dry, upping the frequency
of feedings might be all you need to do.
(Tip: if you were making them switch breasts after a certain amount
of time, start letting the baby decide (unlatch) when they're done with one breast and then switch sides, and / or start each
nursing session on the breast they finished with the last time,
so they have a chance to get all the fatty milk that usually comes at the end
of a
nursing session.)
So I guess the moral
of the story here is, while you may start out slightly bored, highly frustrated, and unable to figure out what to do with yourself, chances are, you and your smart phone will live to see another
nursing session together.
Try dropping the least favored
nursing session of the day, than drop a second and
so on until you have eliminated the last and favorite
session — typically the nighttime one.
So while we love having these ladies in our breastfeeding corner, I can't help but feel like I could never live up to the glamorous depictions
of their
nursing sessions.
She doesn't
nurse that much anyway,
so I know slowly cutting back the number
of nursing sessions is the way.
Although long
nursing sessions probably aren't at the top
of most toddlers to do lists, toddlers do like to know the option is available,
so they check in now and then for reassurance.
Margaret would express and freeze all the milk left at the end
of her
nursing sessions,
so that when the baby was hungry and she wasn't available, Bob had a ready bottle
of breast milk on hand.
But even if you've been
nursing for a while, learning to correct your baby's latch isn't impossible and doing
so will drastically improve the quality
of your breastfeeding

So through my pregnancy I started rubbing his back and singing to him when he woke at night while I was
nursing him and then slowly, with time, I tried to make the
nursing sessions shorter and used more
of the back rubbing and singing instead.
If your child is vomiting often and not keeping the milk down for long, it may be helpful to breastfeed frequently but limit the length
of each
nursing session (
so your child takes in less milk at once).
