so fortunate — a wonderful nanny who brought the
babies so I could
nurse, a home close to my office and the freedom to work from home, leave early, or take a chunk
of time off when my family needed me.

I had talked to many women during my time

so many
of them had told me that when their

It's relatively simple to use, you can use it to carry your
baby in several different positions, it's not bulky
so you can shove it under the stroller or in your bag, you can use it as an emergency diaper pad or pillow, in some positions you can
nurse in it, and (most importantly if you have a toddler) it's super-easy to get the
baby in and out
of it (and in and out and in and out...).

What really surprised me was how much we'd become
nursing elitists, my husband and I. I didn't realize how proud I was
of having
nursed my
baby successfully and for
so long.
Mothers have coordinated their
nursing and pumping schedule
so that they can continue providing milk for their
baby in the care
of a sitter or another family member.
Make it part
of your morning ritual,
so that you remember to do it — as you brush your teeth,
nurse the
baby, drink your coffee, drive the kids to school, whatever.
So, if your
baby nurses every two to three hours and you've only had a single glass
of wine or beer since their last feeding, you can probably
nurse the next time your little one is hungry.
So, if a mom has a glass
of wine at 8 p.m., by the time she
nurses her
baby at midnight that alcohol is almost certainly long gone.
This is why waiting an hour or
so after you
nurse will allow your
baby to regain some
of his / her appetite while still ingesting all
of the milk that is
so important for them at this stage.
If you are a
nursing mom that is giving a bottle
of expressed milk, it's key to pace the feeding
so that the
baby doesn't chug it down quickly and think they are still hungry.
Paint the inside
of your
baby's mouth to cover as much as possible and then
nurse,
so your nipples are also treated.
