OK, for about a millisecond they trick you by tasting like red velvet flavoured icing, then they slam you right at the very last minute with
a soapy aftertaste.
FYI, one always has to be careful with baking soda as you can easily add too much and end up with kind of a metallic /
soapy aftertaste.
I'm sure it's my fault but when I made these the taste of bicarbonate of soda from the baking powder left
a soapy aftertaste.
The cake made with Dutch process cocoa, right, doesn't rise and has
a soapy aftertaste.
