of Asia, problems
of historical method,
of literary criticism,
of language,
of social organization, and

value system in the media, and counsel a return to religious fundamentals, which often include proscriptions against dancing, movies, plays and rock concerts, attempts at censorship
of media — especially films, television and
books — and encouraging participation in church

of corporate
social responsibility (CSR); CSR in the context
of product safety and risk; perspectives on CSR and partnership in the beverage alcohol industry; and CSR and partnership in practice.
A goal for the latter part
of the
book is to try to reconstruct a thicker view
of how to connect knowledge to public action, one that recognizes the importance
of values, welcomes democratic decisionmaking, is aware
of the limits
of different forms
of knowledge, and is not utopian in its aims but is still hopeful about how we can make public progress on a range
of social problems.
After providing the political and cultural contexts for the rise
of the testing accountability movement in the 1960s that culminated almost forty years later in No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top, this
book then moves on to provide a policy history and
social policy analysis
of value - added testing in Tennessee that is framed around questions
of power relations, winners, and losers.
He does the same in his
book, Doing the Right Thing for Children: Eight Qualities
of Leadership as he shares stories
of the hills and valleys
of his personal and professional journeys throughout the presentation
of eight core leadership
values: human potential, knowledge,
social justice, competence, fun and enjoyment, personal renewal, perseverance, and courage.
