As the planet warms — and as that warming accelerates due to man - made
climate change — «the cicada may yet reprise its role as
climate indicator if its cycle is disrupted by a warming planet,» Wildlife Conservation
Society entomologist Craig Gibbs wrote
in an op - ed last week
in The New York Times.
«Agriculture is the sector most likely to be affected by
changes in climate of all sectors of
society,» Nelson adds.
The proposal appears
in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal

climate change.»
The proposed solutions to
climate change will «
in very substantial ways rearrange our economy and the structure of our
society.
This is the second time the Bulletin of the American Meteorological
Society has collected information on the previous year's weather extremes and tried to tease out the role of
climate change in those events.
In December, a special edition of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological
Society included a selection of studies investigating the influence of
climate change on a variety of recent extreme weather and
climate events, including marine heat waves.
A sudden halt to the use of such methods, due to issues such as major negative effects, would also lead to rapid
climate change, to which ecosystems and
societies would have difficulty
in adapting.
«
In the next decade there's going to be a lot of renewable energy built, and all that has to go somewhere,» said Jessica Goad, an energy and

As
society faces more conflict over natural disasters, natural resource use and
climate change, scientists increasingly find themselves
in the spotlight, forced to communicate findings
in ways they haven't
in the past.
«Global inequality, with its roots
in the histories of imperialism and colonialism, has affected the ability of Caribbean
societies to deal with the challenges of
climate change.
«If the natural concentration had been a factor of two or more lower, the
climate impacts of fossil fuel carbon dioxide release would have occurred about 50 or more years sooner, making it much more challenging for the developing human
society to scientifically understand the phenomenon of humanmade
climate change in time to prevent it,» he says.
In a new paper published this week, Dr Sealey - Huggins finds that discussion of
climate change has failed to pay enough attention to the social, political and historic factors which increase the vulnerability of Caribbean
societies, and calls for a new approach focused on understanding and addressing these historic inequalities.
Ultimately, it will require financial support and political will, if we as a
society are to address this imbalance
in the fight against
climate change,» says Maya Pasgaard.
The researchers note that the study provides historical context for what is happening today and what may happen
in the future and demonstrates that there is need for further investigation into the effects of
climate change on modern
societies worldwide.

The risk assessment stems from the objective stated
in the 2015 Paris Agreement regarding
climate change that
society keep average global temperatures «well below» a 2 °C (3.6 °F) increase from what they were before the Industrial Revolution.
The findings, published
in the journal Nature Communications, show that integrating evidence from historical writings with paleoclimate data can advance both our understanding of how the
climate system functions, and how climatic
changes impacted past human
societies.
Martin Rees, the Royal
Society president, added
in the statement: «It has been suggested that the
Society holds the view that anyone challenging the consensus on
climate change is malicious - this is ridiculous.
Now comes news that the Royal

«The

changing in rapid, complex, and interactive ways, with effects throughout the region and, increasingly, the globe,» finds the report from the National Research Council (NRC) of the U.S. National Academies.
They are using the simulation, detailed
in a new paper
in Royal

climate - related
changes will affect forests across North America.
Climate change has moved from being a predominantly physical phenomenon to being a social one,
in the process reshaping the way we think about ourselves, our

Dramatic
changes in the relationship between water and
society will be widespread, as emphasized
in the new report from Working Group II of the Inter-Governmental Panel on
Climate Change.
It uses some of the same long - term data as the
climate change report and as a «collective statement of both governmental and non-governmental organizations... [it] presents a more accurate picture» of where birds stand, says Mark Eaton, a conservation scientist for the Royal
Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)

Continued emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long - lasting
changes in all components of the
climate system, increasing the likelihood of widespread and profound impacts affecting all levels of
society and the natural world, the report finds.
Last week, a new analysis of
climate change and extreme weather was released
in the peer - reviewed Bulletin of the American Meteorological

The National Science Foundation - funded study, published
in the April 27 issue of the journal Proceedings of the Royal

climate stressors.
And while Angkor was overwhelmed by

The
