For the Gavin Brown
show, Leckey is getting together some state -
of - the - art 3D printers, which he'll set to
work to print out
solid versions
of already existing objects, objects scanned to become digital information, which in turn will produce new objects: copies, or «dupes», as he's calling them.
Tyson is one
of those artists who can speak about his
work with a sort
of analytical grandiloquence, as if he's solving a theorem: «I am always trying to find some way in a
solid and static artwork to
show something dynamic.»
The idea behind many
of the
works in this exhibition is to
show the different states
of clay, its transformation from wet, to dry, to
solid.
Saturday night, AM attended the opening
of Joshua Liner Gallery's summer group exhibition, which collects
solid works from a very strong roster
of artists, some
of whom the gallery has
shown previously and others
of whom the gallery is
working with for the first time.
In New York: Anthony McCall will present three vertical «

works - Coupling, 2009, Breath III, 2005 and Meeting You Halfway, 2009 - each

of as a lark, we were surprised to see how quickly people paid attention to the
shows we were organizing, and realized that we had made a

Jouve's jokey Banane bowl is a clear indication that he never lost his talent to amuse, and it's clear in his Calice vase design (both
shown above) that while he developed a new style, which was appropriate to the period, he did not make a total departure from his earlier, more
solid way
of working: he sometimes simply streamlined it a little, which had a similar effect to putting a generously - proportioned lady into a more flatteringly - cut dress.
His
work continues to be exhibited both nationally and internationally, in both group and solo

Ann Temkin is the chief curator
of painting and sculpture at MoMA and head
of the team responsible for this
solid exhibition, which lavishes the entire fourth floor on the
show so that the
works can be seen in the round.
The overall effect
of a Burra painting is
of an intricately
worked - out design
showing, on one level, a Renaissance grasp
of solid geometry, but on another, a fascination with rich and abundant detail.
The solo
show by Benjamin Keating will feature «
works on paper,» «paintings» and sculptural maquettes, all made out
of solid metal.
He has collaborated with engineers on installations and
works that incorporate new technology: laser sculptures, including
Solid Red Line, in which a red line draws itself around the walls
of a room and then erases itself; Pon, a sound - activated metallized PET film mirror installation
shown at The Jewish Museum in New York in 1969.
