There are
solid supporting turns from Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, and Zoe Saldana, but Cooper doesn't trust his characters enough, and is too enamored with his own sordid backdrop of underground fighting rings and hair - trigger violence.
All the while, Villeneuve's cast — which
boasts solid supporting turns by Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg — strives for tension and poignance through strained discussions about the importance of language to perspective.
There's a good bit to like here, including
some solid supporting turns from Steve Buscemi and Rachel Dratch.
Meanwhile, White does her usual enjoyable shtick as Andrew's sassy granny, and Steenburgen holds things together with
a solid supporting turn.
